Welcome to ASTeC - The UK's Centre of Expertise for Accelerator Science and Technology.
ASTeC studies all aspects of the science and technology of charged particle accelerators, ranging from large scale international and national research facilities through to specialised industrial and medical applications.
Its staff pursue world class R&D programmes on behalf of STFC and it is also a partner in the Cockcroft Institute with the Universities of Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster. Additional collaborations include John Adams Institute, other HEIs and international Laboratories.

32nd International Free Electron Laser
Members of ASTeC recently attended the 32nd International Free Electron Laser (FEL) Conference, held in Malmö, Sweden from August 23rd to August 27th, 2010. Jim Clarke, David Dunning and Boris Militsyn attended as delegates, and presented work including details of recent progress on commissioning of the ALICE FEL, and modelling of advanced FEL schemes. Sue Waller also attended the conference as a member of the JACoW editing team. The programme covered experiences of using and operating current facilities such as the recently commissioned X-ray FEL, LCLS, together with proposals for future developments. There was an enjoyable social programme and a number of lively poster sessions providing plenty of opportunity for discussion, and there were many useful exchanges between members of ASTeC and other members of the field.
More information on the conference is available from http://fel2010.maxlab.lu.se/.
