Linear Colliders
ASTeC collaborates in generic physics and technology studies for future electron linear collider projects. Much of the work over the last 6 years has been more specifically directed towards the International Linear Collider (ILC) programme, including major leadership roles in the international project. Our current contributions include work on the positron source and the beam delivery system, including lattice design and simulation, collimation and crab correction system. The emphasis is therefore on generic solutions.
ASTeC is contributing to the FP7 European project European Coordination for Accelerator Research & Development (EuCARD) in the areas of positron source, crab system and beam delivery system. ASTeC has been one of the major contributors to the FP6 European project European design study towards a global TeV linear collider (EuroTeV) which ran from January 2005- December 2008.
ASTeC is a member of the LC-ABD (Linear Collider - Accelerator and Beam Delivery) consortium. This is a group of UK academic institutes aiming to establish a skill base for collider based studies in a number of key areas, including development of new techniques for the measurement and control of intense relativistic particle beams with nanometre precision.
