I am currently working on the design of the DIAMOND
light Source, to be built at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
in Oxfordshire. I am also a member of the Daresbury Linear Collider Group,
whithin which I do work on the 2 future linear collider designs, TESLA and NLC.
My main areas of work include -
DIAMOND Work
Closed Orbit Analysis and Correction
Work for DIAMOND on BPM
and Corrector magnet design and positioning, and SVD
algorithms.
The effects of ground motion
Modelling of ground motion through ATL and Fourier and Gaussian models.
Non-Linear optimisation
Work on both the current DIAMOND reference design
and some unofficial work on the SOLEIL
lattice.
Design of the DIAMOND
Booster
Work on the design of the DIAMOND Booster
synchrotron, a 3GeV 5Hz machine. The work involves calculating the linear dynamics of the machine through the ramp cycle, and
under the influences of both adiabatic and radiation damping and quantum excitation. My work has also involved analysing
the eddy current effects in the dipole vacuum chambers, which leads to an induced sextupole field.

Written several packages for the DL AP group, most important of which is the MADInput
package. This, along with John Jowett at
Cern's mfs
Package, provides some integration between Mathematica and MAD. I have also written some code that reads
MAD files into the MADInput syntax.
