I am a career accelerator professional with early experience in particle physics facilities, later followed by a long spell on design, construction and development of the SRS national Light Source at Daresbury. This includes pioneering work on undulators and FELs.   I led the accelerator physics teams on HELIOS, an industrial compact light source, and then on design of  DIAMOND, the successor to the SRS. Thereafter I worked on the 4GLS and ALICE projects but expanded my research interests too, especially after the formation of ASTeC in 2001. I received a Joint Research Councils Individual Merit Award in 1992 and in 2003 was appointed as Director of ASTeC.
