I started as a physicist in 1985 at Daresbury Laboratory on the development of the SRS and then the design of the Oxford Compact Source. From ~1995 till 2007, I led the lattice design for the UKs Diamond light source and then progressed to the leadership of accelerator studies. Recently my major focus has continued to be in light sources, with responsibility for the accelerator physics design 4GLS design and the development of the ERL prototype now ALICE. I lead the programmes on the ALICE and I have responsibilities covering next generation light source design, ALICE and EMMA and in July 2010 I was appointed as acting Director of ASTeC.
